I don¡¯t believe in hype, just results
I grew up in a single-parent, middle-class household in suburban New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. My mother was a bank secretary and my father an insurance salesman. I delivered newspapers and mowed lawns as a teenager, and worked my share of minimum wage jobs and borrowed lots of money to get through college. So I know how hard it can be to earn a paycheck.
I was the first in my entire family to graduate from college. I earned degrees in Education from Purdue University and The Ohio State University and hold a teacher license. Since 1982, I have served as a professor at two major public universities. I have devoted my career to helping people gain knowledge and skills to improve their lives: I have taught courses and workshops and written for all types of audiences, from grade school students to working adults.
I am skeptical of the proliferation of ¡°junk¡± information (that¡¯s the nicest word I could think of) posing as facts on the Internet and offered through ¡°get-rich-quick¡± schemes and scams. For well over a decade, I have thoroughly researched reputable sources of information and carefully perfected nearly all of the techniques included in this book by using them myself. Not theory ¡ just proven practice and practical information! I am confident you will get the money-saving results you seek by buying this book and I¡¯m willing to put my money where my mouth is. If you read on, I¡¯ll prove it you.
This book is:
A source of no-nonsense knowledge to help you be a more educated consumer.
Full of proven, practical techniques anyone can use to negotiate better deals and save money on purchases big and small.
This Book is NOT:
A ¡°get rich quick¡± scheme.
A source of ways to unfairly take advantage of other people.
A proponent of illegal or unethical methods of saving money.
Brand-new 2007 edition updated with even more ideas

The 28-page print version of the first edition of this book was advertised in publications such as USA Today in the early 1990¡¯s for $24.95, plus the additional cost of shipping and handling. The current version of this book is jam-packed with even more saving money ideas and resources and is now a whopping 62 pages. (Plus see below for information about a new 21-page bonus section!) But because this is now an ¡°e-book,¡± I can save the cost of printing and offer it to you for just $19.95! (All you need is a computer with a free PDF reader to view or print the book.) Just about anyone wanting to save money on monthly bills and learn ways to get better deals. Whether you are living from paycheck to paycheck, a single parent, a recent college graduate, a homeowner, or retiree.
If you are a financial expert such as an accountant or investment banker, you may not get as much from this book. I have a Ph.D. but I have found I have learned far more practical knowledge from experience and my own research than from my college courses.
All you need is the ability to read English and access to a computer with a PDF reader (such as the free Adobe Acrobat Reader). Most computers already have such software installed.
